I offer genuine concern and compassionate kindness. I can help you identify what is causing your pain and provide both practical suggestions tailored to your situation and insight into our brains and the interplay between our emotions, subconscious, thoughts, and behavior. I can also support you in exploring what’s underlying your difficulties, find deeper healing, and make meaning out of your experience, which will lead you to a more grounded sense of self, healthier relationships, and a more satisfying life.
I’m here for you!
If you are struggling with anxiety, overthinking, feeling overwhelmed or depressed, relationship issues, your spiritual life, hurt from the past, or feeling stuck in the present, I’d encourage you to reach out—I’d be more than happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have.
I’ve worked for 30 years in helping professions, including education and pastoral ministry. I’ve walked alongside people with all kinds of hurts and have found strategies that help ease the burden. As your therapist, I will be your companion and guide. I will go with you wherever your path leads, offering support, insight, challenge, and humor, as you face your difficulties.
Losing Your Way.
A rich and satisfying life results from being connected to ourselves, our family and friends, our values, and something beyond ourselves that gives life meaning. Disconnection from any of these can produce feelings of sadness, anger, apathy, loneliness, anxiety, confusion, and shame. We often try to get rid of these feelings by finding ways to avoid or “fix” them, which ends up creating further problems. Then those problems create more feelings, more suffering, and more problems, and we can get stuck.
I am here to help you find your way.
What Therapy Is Like
You’ll tell me your story and what brings you to our meeting. I’ll listen with care and interest, enjoying the process of discovering who you are. I’ll listen for what it is you deeply desire and what is getting in the way. I’ll note the people and relationships you talk about and how you and your important people get along and help or hurt each other. I’ll listen for how it feels to be you against the larger backdrop of this complex, contradictory, confusing, and confounding world we live in.
While I’m listening, I’ll offer observations…patterns in your relationships, a disconnect between your head and your heart, a loss you haven’t grieved, a deep longing that is going unfulfilled…
Often, people come to therapy with something that is difficult for them to talk about. After I’ve earned your trust and you share your difficult thing, I’ll be gentle and kind as I guide you in the steps to work through it.
Eventually, we’ll explore your values, what makes your life meaningful, and how you want to live your life.
I hope you leave each session feeling “felt,” like I get you, I understand the dynamics of your life. I hope you also have a new idea, a different option, or an experiment to try that seems like it might help, and you have more hope than when you came in.
